Our ambitions

To show and share our story and to help foster an understanding of Strathearn’s place in the nation’s history
To help maintain memories and to teach the young about who we are; to bind together the generations
To look after our records and artefacts in perpetuity and to make them available for all to see, in their proper context
To harness new technology to help depict historical events and places, in a way that is engaging for everyone
To expand and enrich the experience of tourists and visitors to the area
To provide entertainment and learning links for all ages and to connect other heritage resources in the area
To help the people of Strathearn to connect to the history of Scotland by way of imagery, films, anecdote and archives

MARNIE GAULD – Chairman

Marnie feels she is lucky to have been raised in Crieff and has an interest in local and Scottish history.

JOHN COWIE – Secretary

Originally from Aberdeen via university in Glasgow, John worked as HR Director in the NHS in various parts of Scotland including 18 years in Tayside. He also worked for 8 years in Scottish Government and is now a semi-retired HR consultant.

John has always had a keen interest in Scottish history and culture; antiquarian maps and medieval coinage. Other interests include travel, current affairs and a high maintenance collie who needs lots of exercise. John lives between Crieff and Comrie, and has two grown up daughters and four young grandchildren.

NEIL RODAN – Treasurer

Originally from Galloway, Neil moved to Comrie in 1999. He has recently retired from a career in IT. Neil enjoys heritage generally and museums in particular. He also enjoys music, cooking and hillwalking.

DAVE FERGUSON – Trustee

Dave, who lives in Crieff, is committed to helping portray Strathearn’s rich heritage and its part in Scotland’s history. He has had a life long interest in local history, especially the railways. He played a key role in the mounting of the Strathearn’s Railways exhibition in the autumn of 2019.

Before he changed career, to drive trains on the national rail network, Dave was a Countryside Ranger, involved in developing different styles of interpretation, which will inform his work with C&SM. Other volunteering Dave has done includes monthly visits to the Strathspey Railway, where he took part in track laying on the Broomhill section, as well as some time on the footplate.

DOROTHY JONES – Trustee & Museum Coordinator

Dorothy retired to Crieff following an eventful career having found Crieff to be welcoming and central to her native Edinburgh.

Since Dorothy’s arrival in Crieff she has been busy volunteering with a variety of groups and making new friends in the area.

LORNA RAMSAY – Trustee

Lorna has been a freelance journalist, English teacher Head of Department, a business coach and Joint Owner and Director of Operations of The Kelvin Consultants / Kelvin TOP-SET, investigating major industrial incidents world-wide, where she continues as a Non-Executive Director.

Lorna has been involved in various voluntary organisations throughout her life and has a keen interest in health, history and political matters, particularly pertaining to the lives of women.

STEWART DONALDSON – Trustee

Stewart worked for many years in investment and financial services. Since 2017, he has represented Strathearn as one of the three ward councillors. He is also a director of Culture Perth and Kinross Ltd, a trustee of Perth and Kinross Heritage Trust and a Governor of Innerpeffray Library.

MARGARET ROY – Trustee

Originally from Kenmore, but now living and working in Perth, Margaret has a passion for geneology and in particular local history in the Crieff area, having traced her direct Roy line in Crieff back to the late 1700s. Notable Crieff ancestors were her 3x great grandfather William Roy (1794 – 1851) who ran Roy’s Inn situated in Comrie Street. His son William became a Veterinary Surgeon and was voted in as one of the 12 Crieff Burgh Commissioners when Crieff became a Police Burgh in 1864. Margaret enjoys helping others with Scottish geneology research whenever she can.

MAC PETRIE – Trustee

A local of the area, Mac has lived in Strathearn most of his life.

Mac is interested in history and enjoys visiting museums. He is especially interested in local history and finds interest in learning about new parts of the area’s history that he did not know about before.

BILL MCDONALD – Trustee

Originally from Peterhead, Bill recently retired from a long career in the NHS.
Bill has been enjoying the stunning countryside and fascinating rich history of Strathearn for the last 20 years. He moved to Crieff in 2025 and describes volunteering with the museum as a joy.
